Everything you need for September 11 online worship.
Preparations for Worship:
- Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
- Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
- This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
- Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
- Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”
CONFESSION OF SINS
God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will. Amen.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Lord, we pray that your mercy and grace may always go before and follow after us that, loving you with undivided hearts, we may be ready for every good and useful work; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
LESSON – HOSEA 3:1-5
The Lord said to me, “Go again. Show love to a woman who is loved by another man, a woman who keeps committing adultery. Show love just as the Lord loves the people of Israel, even though they keep turning to other gods and loving the raisin cakes.”
2So I bought her for myself for fifteen pieces of silver and nine bushels of barley. 3I said to her, “You will stay with me for many days. You must not be promiscuous. You must not be with any other man, and I will also be for you.”
4So the people of Israel will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred memorial stones, and without the special vest or family idols. 5Afterward the people of Israel will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his goodness in the latter days.
LESSON – 2 CORINTHIANS 2:5-11
5Now if anyone has caused sorrow, he has not done it to me, but to all of you to some extent (not to overstate it). 6This punishment inflicted on such a person by the majority is enough, 7so that instead you should rather forgive and comfort him, or else such a person could be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8For that reason, I urge you to reaffirm your love for him. 9In fact, this was also the purpose of my writing: I wanted to know the result of your being tested, that is, if you are obedient in all things.
10If you forgive anyone anything, I do too. To be sure, if I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ for your sake, 11so that Satan would not take advantage of us. We are certainly not unaware of his schemes.
DEVOTION – LUKE 15:1-10
CONFESSION OF FAITH
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
OFFERING
Offerings may be given on-line at tithe.ly/risensavior, mailed to the church, or dropped off at the church.
Our members have joined together in faith and love to do the Lord’s work in this community and around the world. Guests need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry.
PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
Our Lord, Jesus Christ, came down from heaven to seek after us lost sheep and to bring us home rejoicing.
Let us call upon Him in thanksgiving and petition for ourselves and all people.
O Father in heaven, we pray to You through the Son in the Holy Spirit. Grant that we may daily recognize that You provide for our every need of body and soul.
We praise and bless Your holy name for these gifts from above.
Lord of life, You heal and deliver. Hear our cries for all who are in need of strength and rescue. We also give you thanks for your blessings on our sister Sandra Myrick who received a kidney transplant this week and is recovering.
Thank you for your great mercies to her as well as to all those who come to you in prayer.
Father in heaven, Your Son, who drew near to eat with sinners, now feeds His people with His own body and blood. Gather Your people as a shepherd gathers lost sheep.
Remove from them whatever is contrary to sound doctrine and give them repentant hearts, that they might rejoice with the angels in heaven.
Lord of the Church, through the work of Northwestern Publishing House, you provide biblically sound, Christ-centered resources for the spiritual growth and education of your people. We thank you for Mr. Jeremy Angle, and his willingness to serve as the new president. Lead him to use his experience and the gifts you’ve given him to faithfully oversee the work being done.
May his leadership be a blessing to team members, business, and gospel mission.
Dear Lord, we come to you remembering the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We thank you for the healing you have brought to families. Continue to heal hearts ravaged by sin and in need of the comfort only you can give. Help our government respond to threats against our nation. Give wisdom to identify acts of violence before they happen and perception to supply aid quickly after the next disaster. Look with favor upon our nation and preserve our cherished liberties. Enable our leaders to govern with wisdom, honesty, courage and justice. Protect those who serve in the armed forces and those who maintain peace and safety in our communities. We thank you for all our local law enforcement, especially policemen and firemen, who work to keep us out of harm’s way.
Give special care and protection to all of them as they put their lives on the line to keep us safe.
Almighty God, all things are Yours, and You have promised to well supply us with all that we need. Give us courage and faith, that we may give a confident “amen” to these prayers, certain that You will give us all that is good and beneficial to our salvation and preserve us from all things harmful, for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ who taught us to pray…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
THE LORD’S BLESSING
Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. Amen
