Everything you need for September 12 online worship.
Preparations for Worship:
- Do your best to eliminate distractions like the phone, TV, etc.
- Worship actively! Whether you are by yourself or with others, try reading the parts of the service aloud (responses, lessons, and prayers).
- This service is for children too. Help them participate. Ask those who have that ability to read a prayer or lesson aloud. Take a moment to describe what’s happening. Ask questions. Encourage little ones to draw what they are hearing while you all listen. Unlike our more typical Sunday worship at church, you can pause at any time for questions and discussion.
- Before you begin, load each of the videos below. (You might first have to get past a distracting ad.)
- Pause for a moment of quiet meditation. Then pray:
“Heavenly Father, I have come to worship you. Draw near to me in your gracious Word, and assure me of your loving kindness. Curb my wandering thoughts, that with undivided attention I may hear your voice and speak your praise. Through Jesus Christ. Amen.”
CONFESSION OF SINS
The grace of our Lord (+) Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. And also with you.
We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.
Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.
God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will. Amen.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of all power and might, you are the giver of all that is good. Help us love you with all our heart, strengthen us in true faith, provide us with all we need, and keep us safe in your care; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
LESSON – ROMANS 10:11-17
11 For Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 So there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord is Lord of all, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 Yes, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 So then, how can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one about whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without a preacher? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news of peace, who preach the gospel of good things!”
16 But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who believed our message?” 17 So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through the word of Christ.
GOSPEL – LUKE 24:44-48
44 He said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.”
45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 He said to them, “This is what is written and so it must be: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things.
DEVOTION – JOSHUA 4:18-24
CONFESSION OF FAITH
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
OFFERING
Offerings may be given on-line at tithe.ly/risensavior, mailed to the church, or dropped off at the church.
Our members have joined together in faith and love to do the Lord’s work in this community and around the world. Guests need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry.
PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
O God our Father, eternal Lord and King, whose scepter rules over all the earth, whose love embraces all your creatures, we come before you to offer our prayers. Grant our requests according to your wisdom and love. Father, we thank you for the Church, and for the fellowship and wisdom that we enjoy by faith.
Give to all your people faithfulness as we wait for the coming of our Lord.
Particularly we pray for our dear synod. Keep its teachings pure, its ways true, and its witness clear. Give us grace to love your Word and your people.
Father, we thank you for those who proclaim the gospel of peace and for all that we have learned from the preaching and teaching of your Word.
We ask your blessing on all the ministers of our church. Guard those who serve you here and throughout the world. We ask you to let your Word triumph in us and through us. We thank you that you have given your Son to be our Savior and Lord. Lead us every day to confess our sins and to find in him the peace of forgiveness.
As we hear your Word, remember our baptism, and receive his body and blood in Holy Communion, give us strength to serve you and our neighbors.
Today we offer a special prayer for the faculty, staff, and students at Martin Luther College. Father, we are humbled by the grace you extend to us as you use our College of Ministry to assist in preparing ministers of the gospel who will proclaim your Word throughout the world.
Give them joy in their work and make their labors fruitful.
Lord God, You have promised that “all things are possible for one who believes.” In such faith, we bring before You DeLorna Marti’s sister who is suffering with a health crisis and is in the hospital, friend of Andrea Schweim who was involved in the bomb that went off at Eglin Air Force Base on Friday and is in the hospital.
Be with these we pray for, as well as all others who are in need. We ask You to grant them health and healing.
Father, we thank you for the kindnesses and mercies of ordinary life, for your care of us and all humankind. Make us willing to serve each other in love and to live in harmony.
Hear us also as we remember neighbors, friends, or members of our families who are in special need.
All these prayers and requests we present to you, O Father, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord who taught us to pray…
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
THE LORD’S BLESSING
Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. Amen.
